Who is eligible to take driver’s education at De Long’s Driving School?

Students must be 14–17 years old and meet Nebraska DMV requirements. To be eligible for DMV testing through De Long’s Driving School, students must hold a Nebraska Learner’s Permit for at least 180 days before turning 18.

What learner’s permits are available for Nebraska teens?

Nebraska teens ages 14–17 may apply for a Learner’s Permit or a School Learner’s Permit. Both permits require passing a written exam at a Nebraska DMV location.

What is included in the Nebraska-approved driver education course?

The course includes 20 hours of Nebraska-approved classroom instruction offered via live Zoom or online self-paced learning, plus up to 5.5 hours of one-on-one behind-the-wheel driving instruction.

Do you offer student pickup for driving lessons?

Yes. De Long’s Driving School offers student pickup in Elkhorn and West Omaha. Students within approximately 10 minutes of Elkhorn South High School and attending Elkhorn Public Schools may qualify for home pickup.

What vehicle is used for driving lessons?

All lessons are conducted in De Long’s Driving School vehicles that are fully insured, equipped with passenger-side instructor brakes, and clearly marked for driver education.

How long does it take to complete the driving portion?

Most students complete behind-the-wheel instruction within about 30 days, depending on readiness, practice outside of lessons, and scheduling availability.

How many driving hours are included?

Students receive up to 5.5 hours of professional behind-the-wheel instruction, typically delivered in lessons lasting about 1 hour and 20 minutes each.

Does De Long’s Driving School provide driving feedback?

Yes. After every driving lesson, electronic feedback is provided to the parent, student, or both to track progress and areas for improvement.

Is a learner’s permit required to start online driver education?

A Nebraska Learner’s Permit is not required to begin online coursework, but it is required before any behind-the-wheel driving instruction begins.

Does completing driver’s education reduce car insurance costs?

Many insurance companies offer teen driver discounts for completing an approved Nebraska driver education course. Discounts vary by provider.

Do you offer manual transmission driving lessons?

At this time, De Long’s Driving School provides behind-the-wheel instruction in automatic transmission vehicles only.

Online vs. Zoom Driver Education

Two convenient ways to complete your Nebraska DMV-approved classroom instruction. Both programs serve students ages 14–17 and include separately scheduled behind-the-wheel instruction.

Which Course Is Right for You?

Live Zoom Classes

Attend instructor-led classes remotely on scheduled dates and times. A good fit for students who prefer a structured schedule and live classroom instruction.

What Both Courses Include

20 hours of classroom instruction

Same Tuition for Either Course

$450 total for either Online or Zoom through December 31, 2026. Tuition increases to $495 beginning January 1, 2027.

Behind-the-Wheel Training

Both course options use the same behind-the-wheel instruction process. Driving lessons are scheduled separately from classroom coursework, and instructional time is determined by student competency and driving performance.

Free student pickup is available within the Elkhorn school district or approximately 10 minutes from Elkhorn South High School. Students outside the pickup area meet at the designated location.

Driving lessons include residential streets, the Village Pointe area, city traffic, and expressways as appropriate for the student’s skill level. The course also covers parallel parking, checking under the hood, and changing a spare tire.
